President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday extended Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act, 2012 to Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (Pata) under Article 247(3) of the Constitution of Pakistan enabling the establishment of Local Government institutions in Pata.

Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the summary initiated by Ministry of States & Frontier Regions stated that Home & Tribal Affairs Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the approval of Governor had forwarded the proposal for extension of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2012 to Provincially Administered Tribal Areas. It said that the extension of the Local Government Act to PATA will help establish Local Government Institutions in Pata.

Ministry of Safron requested the Prime Minister to advise the President for according his approval to the draft notification for the extension of the said Act to Pata. Therefore, acting upon the advice of the Prime Minister, the President has approved the draft notification that reads as follows;

"S.R.O. (1)/2012:- In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (3) of Article 247 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Governor of the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the approval of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is pleased to direct that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act, 2012 (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Act No VIII of 2012), as in force in the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa immediately before the issuance of this notification, shall apply to the Provincially Administered Tribal Areas of the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with immediate effect."-PR
